Researching HE courses

Understand your choices

When people talk about 'Higher Education' they are usually talking about a bachelor's degree, which is a Level 6 qualification. This is traditionally full-time and takes three years. However, there are now different paths; think about all of the options:

  • Study a year abroad within your 3 years

  • Take a four year option (Extended Degree/Foundation Year or other 4 year routes).

  • Start with a Level 4 or Level 5 Higher Education option or shorter course

  • Distance learning

  • Include a work placement within your course

  • Take a work-route option i.e. higher or degree apprenticeship

  • Part-time study

Research online

  • Use your Unifrog account to research using filters and preferences to ensure you have considered all options, narrow options using the 'Shortlists' tool. Enter your predicted grades to help find courses where you meet the entry requirements.

  • Use Higher Ideas to match your interests or current course to relevant HE courses. Higher Ideas also contains resources to identify career paths and the relevant degrees that compliment them. Email with your student ID number for the link to access.

Try things out

Remember: research and decisions you make are personal, so take charge of your own planning and goals setting.

If you would like to discuss researching HE courses, speak with your personal tutor or an adviser from the Careers and Employability team.
