Job overview


  • The Sight & Sound Directorate at Great Ormond Street Hospital are recruiting an Apprentice Referral Coordinator.


  • The role will be responsible for the delivering a high standard of referral coordination across 3 specialties (Audiological Medicine, Cochlear Implant and ENT), and to provide a high level of administrative support to a clinical team made up of multi-disciplinary professionals.


  • The role will require excellent organisational and customer care skills, reliable and consistent service.


  • The post holder will be required to work as part of a secretarial team, being able to support and provide cover as and when required.

Main duties of the job


  • To be the focal point for all new referrals and support the appointment process through effective communication with all relevant parties (Central Booking Office, patient / families etc.) in accordance with GOSH’s Departmental Referral Registration Process and Trust’s Access Policy and stipulated timescale.


  •  To support the consultants in the triage process. Meetings may be required on an ad hoc basis with particular services, pending on influx of referrals.


  • To be responsible for ensuring appropriate cross-cover arrangements are used to review all referrals within the stipulated timescales.


  • As and when required to accurately type non-routine / urgent patient related information including letter replies etc within a specific time frame.


  • Use a computer for word processing, together with full knowledge and understanding of the EPIC system to input and retrieve information as required.


  • Maintain an up-to-date electronic referral filing system appropriate to the department.
