Realising Opportunities (RO) applications now open!

WKC students have an amazing opportunity to apply for Realising Opportunities (RO) which gives enhanced access to leading universities- including Russell Group.


If you complete RO, you qualify for consideration of UCAS offers two grades lower than standard entry requirements for any undergraduate degree from 14 participating universities: Birmingham, Exeter, Lancaster, University of Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Loughborough, Newcastle, Nottingham, Queen Mary, Sheffield, UCL, Warwick and York

RO is a nationwide programme offered to a few selected schools/colleges. RO requires commitment - as it includes attending events, an in person academic skills workshop and a short academic assignment, all designed to help with university applications. We have a bespoke partnership with RO and last year over 20 of our students got onto the programme. Deadline to apply 30th Oct


Eligibility

You must have at least 5 GCSEs at grade 6 or above (with min of 4 English + Maths)

and at least one of the following:

1) neither parent went to university UK or abroad 2) eligible for 16-19 bursary/ Pupil Premium at college 3) been eligible for FSM at school in the last 6 years 4) have a postcode which qualifies (live in neighbourhood with low progression rate to HE or area of financial, social or economic deprivation, see Read about home postcode criteria


or:

1) be living in/ have lived in local authority care, be a young carer, or are estranged/ living independently from families.

Steps to apply to RO

To apply for a place on the Realising Opportunities programme, you need to:

  1. Thoroughly read the Application Guide for Students and watch the Applying to RO video (see below).

  2. Check full eligibility criteria.

  3. Speak with Chris or Mike from the Careers & Employability team to give you the Student Application Key for WKC.

  4. Log on to the RO student hub to enter the Student Application Key and complete your application form.

  5. Ask your parent/carer to complete the online parent/carer section of the application form which will be sent to their email address once you have submitted your application.

The application form is short to complete. Ensure you enter the correct emails for your parents/carers who need to sign a form emailed to them after you submit your part.
